Black plastic film, primarily made from polyethylene with added antioxidants, UV absorbers, and black masterbatch, is produced using a plastic film blowing machine. It is used as an agricultural covering. The following is a detailed description:
Features
Strong fertilizer retention: Soil covered with black mulch has stable soil temperature, organic matter is in a normal cycle, and the nutritional indicators such as total nitrogen, organic matter, readily available potassium, and alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen in the soil are all improved to varying degrees compared to those covered with transparent film.
Good water retention: Covering with black mulch can reduce soil water evaporation and maintain stable soil moisture. According to experimental measurements, the water content 5 centimeters below the ground after covering with black mulch is 4%-10% higher than that with transparent film, whether two days or 35 days after covering.
Prevention of adverse effects: Black mulch has low light transmittance and less radiant heat transmission, which can reduce the daily temperature fluctuation of the covered soil, which is conducive to the normal growth of crop roots, especially for crops with low soil temperature requirements.
Inhibit weed growth: After covering with black mulch, ground weeds are difficult to grow due to insufficient light conditions. After covering with black film with 5% light transmittance, there are almost no weeds in the soil after one month.
Long service life: Black mulch is thick, has high tensile strength, and is not easily damaged, so its service life is relatively long, and it can generally be used continuously on multi-crop fields.
Disadvantages
Slow warming: Compared with white or transparent mulch, black mulch has a relatively poor warming effect, and the warming speed is not as fast as white mulch. In early spring when rapid soil temperature increase is needed, it may not be suitable.
Difficult to degrade: Traditional black mulch is mostly made of polyethylene and is difficult to degrade in the natural environment. If it is not recycled in time after use, it is easy to cause soil pollution, affecting soil structure and crop growth.
Applicable scenarios
High temperature and drought areas: In areas with high temperatures and dry soil, black mulch can effectively reduce soil temperature, reduce water evaporation, and keep the soil moist, creating a suitable environment for crop growth.
Weedy plots: For fields with more weeds, black mulch can inhibit weed growth, reduce competition between weeds and crops for nutrients, water, and sunlight, thereby reducing weeding costs and labor intensity.
Specific crop planting: Suitable for planting crops with low temperature requirements, such as tomatoes, peppers, string beans, sweet peppers, green beans, yardlong beans, late-maturing watermelons, etc. After covering with black film, both early yield and total yield are higher than those covered with transparent film.
Usage
Land preparation and fertilization: Before covering the black mulch, the land needs to be leveled, weeds, stones, and other debris in the field need to be removed, and sufficient base fertilizer needs to be applied to ensure that the crops have sufficient nutrients for growth.
Mulch covering: Spread the black mulch, lay it flat on the ground, make the mulch tightly adhere to the ground, and use soil blocks or stones to press down the edges of the mulch to prevent the wind from blowing away the mulch.
Punching and sowing or transplanting: According to the planting density and row spacing of the crops, punch holes in the mulch, and then sow or transplant. The size and depth of the holes should be moderate to ensure that the seeds or seedlings can grow smoothly.
